To attend in person you must be a member of the OSGi Users' Forum UK. Free membership can be applied for here.

To attend remotely - We will broadcast the event using Ustream (http://www.ustream.tv/channel/osgi) and it is open to non-members to attend.  We would be grateful if you could register for a Remote Attendance ticket so we get an understanding of the level of interest for the broadcast for future reference.

Abstract

OSGi Development Tooling is often cited as one of the main areas where people encounter difficulties. There is a significant effort going on from open source and commercial tooling teams to improve the OSGi Development experience.  We have pulled together a number of the project leads and key contributors of OSGi Development tools for the next meeting.

This is your opportunity to meet with the people behind the tools. You will have the opportunity to share your development challenges and issues and get answers from the experts along with learning and understanding from your peers.

Each of the panel members will provide a brief overview of their tooling and then we will open it up for a panel discussion. So please come armed with your questions! We are also pleased to receive questions in advance and you can send these to uk-info@osgiusers.org.

Most of the panel will be there in person and a few will be joining us via Skype video. Confirmed panelists so far are:

As we recognise OSGi tooling is a big challenge we are also opening up the meeting to a much wider audience by allowing people around the world to watch the meeting live via Ustream. We will also be enabling them to submit questions and comments via twitter (#osgitool).

Of course if you attend in person there will be the chance to talk to the Experts over a beer or two after the meeting.

Panel Bios:

Peter Kriens

Peter is the OSGi Director of Technology and CEO an aQute. He has worked many years as consultant for a large number of international companies, inclusing Adobe, Intel, Ericsson, IBM, and others. In 2001 he was hired by the OSGi Alliance to run their specification process. He is th eprimary editor of all the specification releases since release 2 in May 2001. In 2005 he became of of the two OSGi Fellows. He lives in France and travels the world to help the different OSGi expert groups to accomplish their tasks.

Martin Lippert

Martin leads the development of the SpringSource Tool Suite and the Spring IDE at VMware and is committer on the Eclipse Virgo project working on the tooling support for Virgo. Before joining VMware Martin worked as coach and consultant for agile software development and modular architectures and founded together with colleagues it-agile, the leading company in Germany focused on agile software development. He has a long history in OSGi-based business application development and likes to share his experiences via conference talks and articles.

Toni Menzel 

Toni is an independent java software architect believing in modular thinking materialized in OSGi technology and agile principles practiced in Open Source Software. He delivers strong experience in building application platforms, build systems and integrating corporate efforts with OSS communities from working with companies in several domains and if different size like Morgan Stanley Bank AG, Daimler AG, Lufthansa, Sonatype Inc. and Luminis Technology. Toni is a project lead & committer to OSS projects at OPS4J and Apache Software Foundation.

Kaloyan Raev

Kaloyan Raev is the project lead of the Eclipse Libra project. He is one of the pioneers at SAP that turned the company into a dedicated player in the Open Source world. His first involvement with the Eclipse community dates back to 2006. A year later he became a committer in the Eclipse WTP project - the first-ever SAP committer in an Eclipse open source project. Kaloyan works at the SAP NetWeaver R&D team and has the pleasure to work on Eclipse open source projects as part of his job.
